Gold Strokes Swim School

We are a Swim School based in Sunderland teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities

About Us

Gold Strokes Swim School was set up in 2019 by Matt Wylie MBE, Rio 2016 Paralympic Swimming Gold Medalist.

We believe that every child should learn to swim in a safe and fun environment.

Our unique learn to swim pathway avoids using armbands, helping your child swim independently quicker

We are currently based at Southmoor Academy (SR4 7TF).

Lessons are £31.06 per swimmer per month for term time lessons only

Our Stages

Fun Swim 1

FUN Swim are our introductory stages on our learn to swim pathway. In these stages our teachers create a fun environment, to build your swimmers confidence. Most activities will be group swims using fins and other swimming aids. Lots of toys, lots of splashing, lots of FUN!

Fun Swim 2

FUN Swim 2 is where your swimmer will start to hold their face in the water, learn to jump into the pool and travel short distances aided.

Swim 1

In Swim 1 your swimmer will start to perform short, unsupported swims of 5m to 10m. This may be kicking with a handheld float or swimming fully unaided.

Swim 2

In Swim 2 swimmers start traveling for longer distances, up to a full length of the pool. The lessons focus on basic Frontcrawl swimming, recognised by the swimmer breathing on their back.

Swim 3

In Swim 3 your swimmer will learn to breathe correctly on Frontcrawl, a side position with one arm up and their shoulder dry.

Swim 4

In Swim 4 we begin to focus on longer distances of both kicking and swimming, implementing the technique they have developed in Swim 3. We also begin to teach the basics of Butterfly and Breaststroke kick.

Swim 5

In Swim 5 your swimmers will begin to swim longer distances, up to 200m, of Frontcrawl and Backstroke to a high standard. We work on full stroke Butterfly and Breaststroke over full lengths of the pool.

Swim 6

Finally in Swim 6 your swimmers will become competent in all aspects of swimming, including skills and drills such as tumble turns and dives. Swim 6 swimmers are always welcome to stay with us or progress onto a swimming club.
